Choose a place connected to your chapter
The best graduation photo location is often one that means something to you: your campus, a familiar walk or a place you associate with the people who supported you. A recognizable backdrop can help tell the story, but comfort and a workable plan matter too.
Sahara Studios’ portfolio includes Carleton University convocation photographs.
Campus or a separate portrait setting?
Campus can connect the photographs directly to your studies. Think about which building, outdoor space or route is meaningful rather than planning to cover the entire campus. Check access and whether your chosen areas will be busy on the date.
A park, waterfront or urban setting can work when you prefer a quieter session away from the ceremony. Choose an atmosphere that fits your outfit and the kind of portraits you want.
Work around your ceremony and regalia
Before choosing a time, confirm when you can collect and return your gown or cap. Portraits before or after convocation may feel convenient, while a separate date can allow a different pace. Decide how much walking you want in your graduation outfit.
If friends or family will join, choose a clear meeting point. Keep the route manageable and discuss group size before booking.
Check access and your backup plan
Ask the campus or location manager about current photography access and any arrangements needed. Consider walking surfaces, shelter and a second setting if outdoor conditions change. Do not assume access to an indoor building simply because you have selected the campus.
Prepare for the session
Share your institution, preferred setting, date and whether the session is individual or includes others. The graduation preparation guide helps organize outfits, regalia and props.
